I have been telling people for some years now that Falmouth has the best Pub and the best Fish and Chips in the UK. Rather curiously, the Fish and Chip Shop, Harbour Lights, sits right on top of the pub, The Front, on Custom House Quay, right by the water.
I’m thrilled to see that now I have some evidence to prove my claim, as Harbour Lights has just been voted ‘Best Independent Fish & Chip Restaurant in the UK 2017’. Congratulations to Harbour Lights on a great accolade for superbly cooked fresh seafood from Cornwall.
The Front, well, The Front is a CAMRA favourite and has won so many awards I have lost track.
It takes precisely three minutes to walk from The Captain’s House to Custom House Quay, so when the mood takes us we wander done to The Front and then get our fish and chips and mushy peas from the Harbour Lights above and eat them in the Pub. The Front doesn’t serve food and they are cool about you bringing your own food. For me, there is no better combination than a pint of local ale and fresh fish and chips. You can of course also eat your classic seaside dish in the Harbour Lights restaurant that looks out across the Quay.
